AcrylicVisible structure and vivid colour

Acrylic brings structure, colour and inlays into the exterior of an EDC piece: from Leap’s clear covers to Little Crystal’s coloured bodies and PIGEONEGG’s opaque white core.

Here, acrylic means PMMA: poly(methyl methacrylate). It is not limited to a colourless, transparent appearance. Makers also use orange, amber-yellow and opaque porcelain-white versions. The specific product description is a better guide to material identity than colour alone.

Six product families show acrylic used for covers, bodies, cores and storage shells. The photographs show their appearance; the makers’ corresponding descriptions identify the materials and the parts they belong to.

01 · CLEAR COVERS

Leap: clear covers make the mechanism part of the design

Read the covers and metal components separately

Proxy’s Carry Park Leap BETA announcement specifies a clear acrylic upper cover and an acrylic lower cover. It separately lists two non-removable stainless-steel base blocks, a stainless-steel logo plate on the upper cover, and internal components involving stainless steel and PEI sliding blocks. A transparent exterior does not make every internal part the same plastic.

The curved covers, central lettering and internal parts overlap visually. Acrylic makes these layers part of the design. The source describes a short-travel mechanical slider, with a telescoping rod working against a ratchet track, while combinations of magnetic balls and magnets change the feedback at the ends of travel.

The side channels can hold beads, metal rods or Teflon strips, or can be left empty. Similar clear exteriors can therefore contain different setups. The photograph reveals the available space, but cannot identify the material of every insert on its own.

02 · COLOURED BODIES

Little Crystal: amber-yellow PMMA, not PEI

The Yellow Crystal version. The maker explicitly identifies it as PMMA, not PEI.

A colour name is not a material name

BPMODS identifies all four Little Crystal colours—White, Black, Yellow and Red Crystal—as PMMA, and specifically states that Yellow Crystal is not PEI. Amber-yellow is an appearance that can be created in different materials; it does not identify PEI.

Each colour in this release comes with a specified decorative plate. Clear edges, the coloured body and the plate design work together in the photographs. Little Crystal is a product name, not a claim that the piece is made from natural crystal.

The maker lists dimensions of 40 × 30 × 11.2 mm and a weight of 9.5 g, explicitly including the plate. Its tracks offer a nine-step detent setup and a denser 15-step setup, with different springs and beads. The light body, artwork and feedback should be understood as parts of this particular configuration.

03 · COLOUR AND TRACK

POPO: orange gives a familiar shape a new expression

In its Beijing exhibition announcement, KAIS lists the POPO PMMA Fanta colourway separately and specifies a detent track. The photograph shows an orange translucent body with layered contour lines. It is a different version from the TC4 titanium Jingpu POPO with coloured engraving presented in the same article.

The maker describes crisp feedback and says the piece is tuned at the factory to ring. That description belongs to this version and its setup; it does not establish a shared sound for every PMMA slider. PMMA, the Fanta colourway and the detent configuration all help identify the version.

04 · CORE AND FRAME

Acrylic can be opaque

FairyWorks’ PIGEONEGG draws a triangular outline inward towards a central opening. The maker describes CNC-machining each core from a solid piece of material to form a continuous curved surface, followed by polishing. A separate frame is machined from solid stainless steel.

The pendant offers cores in porcelain-white acrylic, PEI, stainless steel and zirconium alloy. The white version shows that acrylic need not rely on transparency. Porcelain-white describes its appearance; it does not make the core ceramic.

This group photograph compares the white acrylic core with other versions, rather than showing an all-acrylic group. The maker presents the piece as a bag charm, necklace pendant and palm-held fidget. The separate materials of the frame and core remain part of each configuration.

05 · FINISHES AND PARTS

Xulie EDC’s Chuansuo release lists clear, yellow and blue PMMA, each with sandblasted and polished finishes. The original group photograph shows all six appearances. Some look clearer and others more diffuse, reflecting the particular colours and surface treatments.

The PMMA version is listed at 60 × 28 × 14.6 mm and approximately 28 g. The announcement also specifies PEEK centre plates throughout: white plates for PMMA bodies and black plates for metal bodies. The white component visible through the body should therefore not be labelled PMMA.

The metal versions in the same article are listed at a different thickness, 14 mm, with their own complete-product weights. They provide configuration comparisons, not a controlled experiment in which only the material changes.

06 · STORAGE AND ASSEMBLY

Small Snake: a storage shell that can join the setup

A PMMA shell listed separately from the PEEK fidget

Alongside its PEEK Small Snake update, BRAIN separately lists a PMMA storage shell without a lanyard hole. The maker explains that a spare middle layer can be installed in this shell to create a simple sliding-button fidget. It provides storage and another way to use an existing component.

The PEEK fidget, the middle-layer/internal-cartridge accessory listed as stainless steel plus PEEK, and the PMMA storage shell are separate items in the article. This photograph shows only the PMMA shell. Chamfer changes, bead grooves and factory-fitted Teflon described for the other fidgets cannot automatically be assigned to this shell.

07 · MATERIAL BACKGROUND

Understand PMMA, then care for the particular piece

PLEXIGLAS manufacturer literature identifies acrylic chemically as PMMA and describes cast and extruded products in different colours and finishes. PLEXIGLAS is a brand name. The EDC announcements do not disclose resin grades or suppliers, so these pieces are not attributed to that brand’s raw material.

The manufacturer’s basic advice for its acrylic surfaces is a soft, damp cloth, avoiding completely dry rubbing that can cause scratches. An EDC piece may also contain coatings, inlays, adhesive layers and mechanisms. Follow the maker’s guidance for that product rather than transferring sheet-cleaning solvents, polishing or disinfection procedures directly to the assembled fidget.
