In the Summer 2025 issue of Gems & Gemology, GIA describes agate as a banded variety of chalcedony and chalcedony as a fibrous cryptocrystalline variety of silica. This is category background, not proof that every EDC item on this page has undergone gemmological testing.

For products, follow the material, version and component named by the maker. A photograph can show light transmission, colour and pattern, but it cannot establish natural origin, dyeing, heat treatment, geographic origin or mineral species on its own.

Liao Liao EDC lists Fafashe in two complete versions: white-ice agate at about 70 g and icy jadeite at about 78 g. Both share approximate complete dimensions of 55 × 30 × 14 mm.

The product also uses an optimised Dinglang bronze track that supports two-, three- and four-tone tuning. The weights describe complete versions, while the track is a separate internal metal component; 70 g is not the weight of a loose agate piece.

In the Xuan Bing Cui Chijinma release, Liao Liao EDC lists a carved jadeite horse panel, plain jadeite, plain black jadeite and plain agate separately. Plain agate is offered both in a body-plus-panel set and as a conditional add-on when ordering zirconium Chijinma. It is a panel mounted to a zirconium body, not another name for zirconium.

The source describes these panels collectively as natural stone, with final hand finishing and polishing, and notes internal pattern variation. Those statements belong to this panel release; the photographs and colours do not establish agate variety, treatment or origin.

Ziii Studio's Tanmi slider explicitly lists steel + red agate and zirconium + black agate, with 35 of each. The source does not present the two lines as freely interchangeable combinations, so each agate colour remains tied to its stated metal in this release.

The maker also says natural pattern is random and that the surface may show pits or associated mineral features. This remains a purchase note for that product rather than a universal appearance rule for every agate object.

MTAK says its Detroit Agate RELIC uses Corvette Fordite. The maker describes the material as many layers of automotive paint accumulated during spraying and repeatedly baked during curing, and says poor bonding between layers increased breakage during machining.

Detroit Agate is therefore a commercial Fordite name in this case, not the banded chalcedony described by GIA.

The Fafashe source advises avoiding impact and drops, wiping dirt with a soft cloth and water, and keeping the product away from strong acids and alkalis. The advice accompanies the agate and jade versions in that release and can be kept as a product-specific boundary.

It does not automatically replace another maker's care instructions, and it should not be projected onto layered Fordite. For an optional panel, also check its fastening, the body material and the maker's after-sales conditions separately.
