GlassFrom display chambers to track beads and luminous tubes
In these EDC examples, glass appears as transparent display chambers, track beads and small luminous accessories. Its role changes with the part: it may keep a collection visible, participate in mechanical feedback or form a narrow tube around a luminous fill.
NIST discusses familiar silicate glass and metallic glass as amorphous materials. This page focuses only on EDC parts that the product sources explicitly call glass; it does not merge metallic glass or glass-fibre composites into the same product category.
Sapphire glass and acrylic, sometimes marketed in Chinese as organic glass, are also kept outside the ordinary-glass examples. Their full material names matter: the word glass or a transparent appearance alone cannot establish material identity.
The two sizes in use: the source says the small chamber holds 2–3 objects and the large one 8–9; these are the maker's display-capacity descriptions.
First ask whether it is a chamber, bead or tube
Transparency and light transmission are visual clues, but they do not automatically mean ordinary glass. Sapphire glass, quartz glass, glass-fibre composites and acrylic each retain their own material identity. The examples here are limited to parts directly described as a glass chamber, glass beads or glass tubes.
A glass part often works alongside wood, metal, PEI, springs or a luminous fill. Before reading weight, dimensions or feedback, check whether a figure describes the complete object or the small glass component; a mixed-material product cannot be reduced to the properties of its glass.
Time Capsule: glass forms the transparent chamber
The glass chamber provides transparent enclosure and viewing; wood and brass form the frame and accents.
Carry EDC's Time Capsule uses black walnut for the main frame, brass for accents and a round glass chamber. The glass encloses the display space while keeping the collection visible; it is separate from the wooden end frames and metal fittings.
The small version measures 20 × 11.5 × 12 cm and is described as holding 2–3 objects. The large version measures 46 × 11.5 × 12 cm and is described as holding 8–9. These dimensions and capacities belong to the complete display chambers; the source does not state glass type or thickness.
Thousance Falcon LITE: glass beads create a tool-free second mode
METILIS Thousance Falcon LITE has a dedicated glass-bead slot in its face. Inserting the bead creates what the maker calls glass-bead mode; the other mode uses bearing rotation. Here glass is a removable moving element rather than the metal spinner body.
The mirror-polished version is explicitly paired with lake-blue glass beads, while the iridescent green version is also listed with glass beads. Other versions use different metals and finishes, so one bead colour or metal construction cannot be projected across the series.
Mashaji: glass beads are one middle-ring feedback set
ZacLab Mashaji: the complete object has a PEI body and stainless-steel buttons; 3 mm glass beads are one spring-and-bead option in its middle ring.
ZacLab Mashaji has a PEI body and stainless-steel buttons. Its outer ring uses POM beads; the middle ring separately lists zirconia ceramic beads and 3 mm glass beads, both paired with 0.25 × 3 × 5 steel springs.
The accessory pack adds two 3 mm glass beads. The 20 g weight and 39 × 12.2 mm dimensions describe the complete object, not the glass beads; POM, zirconia ceramic and glass also remain three separate bead materials.
Ruyi: two bead diameters pair with two spring types
Geek EDC's new Ruyi mechanical slider lists two factory configurations: 2.8 mm glass beads with piano-wire springs, and 3.0 mm glass beads with gold-plated piano-wire springs.
The same release lists complete PEI, G10 Jinxiangyu and Ice Crystal Titanium Daji versions. The bead-and-spring sets may be used across those versions, but that does not make the body itself glass.
Luminous glass tubes: the tube is known, the fill remains unknown
Metal Toys-Dz. presents a set of small accessories as luminous glass tubes positioned as tritium-tube substitutes. Three sizes are listed: 1.5 × 6, 2 × 12 and 3 × 11 mm. The source establishes the glass tube, luminous use and EDC DIY accessory role.
The tritium-substitute phrase is product positioning. It does not mean the fill is tritium, and it does not establish the luminous chemistry, duration or safety data; none of those details is disclosed in the article.
How to read the category: transparency is not a material name
Start with the part named in the source, then see how it connects to the body, spring, track or frame. A chamber, bead and tube may all be glass while performing entirely different structural tasks.
When a source says sapphire glass, quartz glass, glass fibre or acrylic, keep the full name and assess it separately. A photograph can show transparency and installation position, but it cannot establish glass composition or strengthening treatment on its own.
