Mammoth ToothPanels, carved forms and the distinction between tusk and molar

Mammoth tooth materials bring natural patterns into EDC. A pale panel may sit within carbon fibre, or the material may contribute to a gourd-shaped object or thumb ring. Its anatomical origin, treatment and place in the construction matter as much as colour.

Product descriptions use “mammoth”, “mammoth tooth” and “mammoth ivory” with different levels of precision. This guide follows each source's wording and discusses explicitly identified fossil molar separately, rather than relabelling everything as one type of ivory.

ZXIANG and Zhiwanwu's Shuimo announcement distinguishes mammoth-tooth panels from the carbon-fibre structure. The photograph does not establish that the whole object is made from tooth material.

Section 01

Shuimo: a tooth-material panel within a separate structure

ZXIANG and Zhiwanwu's March 2025 Shuimo announcement lists dimensions of 54 × 31mm, carbon-fibre construction and natural-colour mammoth-tooth panels. It also mentions a specially treated sliding contact surface and 16 magnets.

The visible contrast is between pale tooth material and the black frame, with the pattern concentrated on the panel. Movement, contact surfaces and the magnetic arrangement work together; the play modes described by the maker should not all be attributed to the mammoth material itself.

The source uses the commercial description “top-grade ice material” without providing a grading standard or independent authentication. Photographs also cannot establish which part of the tooth was used.

Section 02

Xuantian Hu: the “Little Mammoth” nickname can mean PEEK

MOT's Xuantian Hu material update introduces a mammoth-material gourd and describes demanding raw-material size and quality requirements, together with unpredictable machining results. The maker expected a low yield and therefore excluded the mammoth edition from that release, planning to offer finished pieces to VIP customers later without guaranteeing one for everyone. No numerical yield is established.

The same article then introduces a PEEK Xuantian Hu nicknamed “Little Mammoth”, referring to a similar colour and texture. That nickname does not change PEEK's material identity. The subsequent quantities, delivery arrangements and performance claims for PEEK do not describe the mammoth edition.

Section 03

RELIC: the blue-green lines come from restoration

MTAK's Halloween 2025 announcement explicitly identifies fossil mammoth molar. The maker reports extensive break-up and cracking during CNC machining, followed by two months of fossil restoration that left three pieces available for sale.

The source also states that the blue-green colour between the fragments comes from restoration. This edition should therefore not be described as untreated, naturally blue-green tooth material. Nor does “100%” in a model name establish the absence of restoration material. The repair medium, filler proportion and mechanical strength are not disclosed.

This is an account of that batch of fossil molar and its processing. It does not establish the same susceptibility to cracking for every mammoth tusk or other tooth material.

Section 04

POPO: keep the finish and track; leave anatomy unresolved

KAIS's Christmas 2025 announcement lists mammoth-tooth POPO with a polished finish and a stepped track. It also notes that the material is not pure white and that colour and pattern vary. These details help describe the particular edition.

However, the article links “ancient ivory” with “incompletely fossilised molar” in its explanation, leaving insufficient evidence to identify the anatomical material of the finished piece more precisely. The mammoth-tooth edition name is retained here. It is not presented as authenticated tusk ivory, and RELIC's restoration history is not applied to POPO.

Section 05

Zhuanyun thumb ring: care information follows the product

In its Zhuanyun Hamster Project announcement, YEDC separately introduces a thumb ring in one fixed size, with a magnetic structure that can turn in both directions. One listed material is mammoth ivory. Chinese ring size 29 and a 22mm internal diameter belong to this thumb-ring version, not every Zhuanyun ring.

For this product, the maker warns that temperature, humidity, stress and chemical exposure may cause irreversible cracks. This remains the maker's care advice. The source does not establish a treatment suitable for every tooth material and restoration method, so it is not a basis for recommending soaking, oiling or abrasive refinishing.

Section 06

Separate anatomy, processing and the finished object

Origin, anatomical part and subsequent treatment are different kinds of information. The Natural History Museum's mammoth-molar research examines features such as the crown and enamel grinding ridges. Naming the animal alone does not identify the part of the tooth.

For an EDC piece, check whether its source specifies tusk, ivory, fossil molar or simply mammoth. Then identify whether the material forms a panel, an external shape or part of a mixed construction. Natural colour, deliberate dyeing and restoration fillers also need separate confirmation; neither cream colour nor coloured lines resolve those questions.
