NiobiumColour across polished faces, matte finishes and curved forms

Niobium makes a vivid first impression in EDC. Look closer at a spinner and its anodised finish, surface texture and contours all contribute to the colour you see.

Element's broad triangular outline, Wuyazi mini's curved arms and the layered surfaces of Nautilus · Longji show three different approaches. The particular edition matters more than treating every blue or purple metal as the same material.

Ele's second-batch Element, described by the maker as pure niobium and listed at 82g. Conflicting purity notation in the announcement leaves the exact percentage unconfirmed.

Section 01

Element: 82g belongs to this finished spinner

In its July 2025 second-batch announcement, Ele listed pure-niobium Element separately from Storm Titanium, pure tantalum, crystallised titanium and 95WNiFe. The niobium edition was listed at 82g. This provides a useful reference for that particular finished product, rather than a weight to apply to niobium spinners of different sizes and construction.

The photograph shows broad, smooth surfaces transitioning from gold to pink-purple and deep blue, with Niobium engraved on the button. The source gives both “3N5” and “99.99%”, which are inconsistent purity notations. The maker's description of pure niobium can be reported, while the exact percentage still requires material documentation.

Section 02

Wuyazi mini: distinguish the finish before the gradient

STABLE EDC's November 2025 announcement separates the zirconium and niobium finishes. The niobium section includes matte anodising and mirror-polished anodising, with two-colour gradients planned for the regular production versions of both. Matte colours were to be paired at random from blue, purple, green and pink; one mirror-polished three-colour gradient was a special surprise edition.

Blue-purple here describes the appearance of a particular finish, not a new niobium alloy grade. Curved arms and the openwork button catch light differently as their surfaces turn away from it. Material name alone leaves out much of the effect created by shape and finish.

The same announcement describes changes to the mini's construction: each arm moves from two ball slots to one larger slot, and the text mentions wugang balls. A niobium edition therefore need not have every small component made from niobium. The maker's comparisons of vibration, feel and cost are not independent tests by TRB.

The photograph accompanies STABLE EDC's matte-anodised niobium section. That release specified two-colour gradients with randomly paired colours.

Section 03

Nautilus · Longji: colour across layered curves

G-ingEDC's pure-niobium Nautilus · Longji from its third special-material release. Colours were allocated at random; this photograph is not a fixed colour specification.

G-ingEDC explicitly listed a pure-niobium Nautilus in its March 2026 third special-material announcement. In the product photograph, the arms, inner ring and button show blue-green, gold and purple, with reflections accentuating the smaller changes in contour.

The maker describes the colour as a soft, restrained lustre: an aesthetic judgement from the maker. The announcement also states that patterns or colours in that batch would be supplied at random. The pictured example does not promise an identical colour arrangement on every pure-niobium Nautilus.

Section 04

Polished and matte versions follow each release

In its August 2026 Longshenwan XL special-material announcement, STABLE again lists mirror-anodised and matte-anodised niobium separately, placing them in the planned third shipment. Even within one brand, finishes are managed as separate options. Wuyazi mini's gradient and surprise-edition arrangements should not be carried over to Longshenwan XL.

When comparing niobium editions, check the product, size or version, finish and finished weight in that order. One toy's weight, the maker's discussion of cost or the colour in a photograph cannot establish another toy's material grade or feel.

Section 05

Anodised colour does not establish material identity

The Royal Society of Chemistry identifies niobium as the element Nb and describes it as a silvery metal. It also discusses colour produced through the thin oxide layer formed by anodising, explaining how the same metal can have different surface colours.

Niobium also occurs in alloys and superconducting materials. A composite containing niobium is not equivalent to the pure-niobium editions discussed here. Conversely, a brightly coloured spinner still needs a material statement from its source; colour alone cannot identify it as niobium.
