Sapphire GlassA clear view of artwork and mechanisms
In EDC, sapphire glass can make the view part of the experience: a painting held between your fingers, or a mechanism visible through a clear panel. Its role may be a surface panel, a decorative ring or an optional accessory.
01EDC artwork shells, LAUTIE Carnival designs and Xulie EDC’s Sanwen coin show different uses for a transparent component. Behind that surface, metal bodies, printed artwork and moving parts retain their own roles.

01EDC’s January 2025 update explicitly separates the zirconium-alloy shell body from its sapphire-glass surface. The studio describes using high-resolution artwork and precision printing with a transparent surface. The pictures are part of the shell design, rather than a natural pattern in sapphire.
The listed weight is 16 g × 2, including the sapphire glass; each shell half measures 45 × 25 × 6.7 mm. These figures describe the shells with their surface panels, not the mass or thickness of a bare sapphire sheet. A separately listed luminous material produces the glow effect. Sapphire itself is not described as the light-emitting ingredient.
Carnival: included and optional are different
LAUTIE Carnival MEGA, introduced in May 2025. The maker lists an included sapphire-glass decorative ring; this photograph shows the assembled design.
Carnival: included and optional are different
LAUTIE introduced Carnival MEGA in May 2025 with an outer numbered dial, an inner four-leaf-clover dial and an included sapphire-glass decorative ring. Its stated 5:1 transmission ratio comes from the magnet arrangement and mechanism. The glass ring contributes to how the design is seen.
The titanium-alloy update of the Carnival lucky roulette in June 2025 instead lists a sapphire-glass sheet as an option. These are separate product records: MEGA’s included accessory does not establish what comes with the lucky roulette. A titanium roulette should not be assumed to have the optional sheet installed.
Sanwen: the same panel, different metal configurations
Xulie EDC’s March 2025 release lists both titanium-alloy and zirconium-alloy Sanwen coins with sapphire-glass panels. Both have stainless-steel toothed rings; the other machined parts are identified as titanium alloy or zirconium alloy respectively. The approximately 66 g and 87 g weights belong to those two complete configurations.
The same announcement also gives the titanium and zirconium versions a different winding-spring specification from the stainless-steel version. A shared panel material does not make the configurations equivalent, or explain every difference in weight and feedback.
Surface hardness is only part of durability
Sapphire glass is a common product term for synthetic sapphire used as a transparent window. Edmund Optics describes its optical sapphire as single-crystal aluminium oxide. This guide retains the EDC makers’ material names; their specific suppliers, surface coatings and bonding methods are not disclosed.
01EDC reports scratch and impact checks carried out by its studio, but does not publish the loads, methods or full results. Those statements are not TRB testing and do not establish that arbitrary drops or impacts will leave a piece undamaged. Consider the panel, edges and mounting together, and follow the instructions for the particular product when cleaning or disassembling it.
