BronzeFrom a bronze scabbard and a bronze spinner edition to phosphor-bronze combinations

The word “bronze” can refer to a scabbard, the body of a spinner edition, one constituent of tri-colour mokume, or a source-specified phosphor bronze. Locate the material and follow the source term before reading the finish and figures.

The current GB/T 5231-2022 covers designations and chemical compositions of wrought copper and copper alloys; industry data also separates phosphor bronze, aluminium bronze and silicon bronze into different families. When a product source says only “bronze,” a specific formulation or grade cannot be supplied from appearance.

This page uses “phosphor bronze” only where the original source does. Photographs establish the product, version and finish; gold, reddish-brown, silvery or dark tones do not by themselves distinguish bronze from brass, copper or baitong.

Section 01

Bronze is neither a colour nor one fixed grade

Copper-alloy references list phosphor bronze, aluminium bronze and silicon bronze separately. When an EDC source says only “bronze,” this page retains that family-level term without supplying tin content, aluminium content or a specific grade.

Brass, copper, baitong and bronze cannot be reassigned from photographic tone. Finish, lighting and oxidation can all alter visible appearance; a photograph shows how one finished product presents.

Section 02

Tai'a Jian: bronze is used for the scabbard

Wanwu Lezhi EDC uses bronze for the Tai'a Jian scabbard and titanium alloy for the sword. The complete configuration is listed at 98 g.

The bronze component is first sandblasted, then antiqued, and finally stonewashed, ground and polished. The titanium-alloy sword and black insert have their own finishes; 98 g is neither the scabbard alone nor a density figure for bronze.

Nun: two finishes for one bronze edition

The fine-polished finish of the bronze-edition Nun; the source separately lists a sandblasted, antiqued finish.

SilentGarden’s bronze-edition Nun entry lists fine polishing and sandblasting with antiquing, each with an adjacent product photograph. The images show the same form under two different finishes.

The source prints the weight as “70±g” but provides no value after the ± sign. It is therefore treated here only as nominally about 70 g, without inventing a tolerance. Structural figures such as the 49 mm spin diameter belong to the Nun product, not to bronze as a material.

Siren: bronze is one part of tri-colour mokume

Siren tri-colour mokume: the source explicitly lists bronze, baitong (source-termed “white copper”) and brass.

Siren’s tri-colour mokume is explicitly composed of bronze, baitong (source-termed “white copper”) and brass. The brand says a shallow acid wash gives this version a subtle ice-crystal effect and that it will gradually oxidize and develop a patina over time.

The complete piece cannot be reduced to bronze, nor can each gold or brown band be assigned to one of the three metals by eye. The source prints “44g+/-” without a numeric tolerance, so this page reports only a nominal weight of about 44 g.

Section 05

Zhendang 2.0: black PEEK plus phosphor bronze

The source lists Zhendang 2.0 as black PEEK plus phosphor bronze; it does not label each visible component.

The Guangzhou EDC Day exhibition guide lists Zhendang 2.0 as black PEEK plus phosphor bronze. The photograph sits with that entry and establishes the product and its two-material configuration.

The source does not label each photographed component or state a phosphor-bronze grade, composition or heat treatment. The caption therefore records only the combination, without assigning parts by colour.

Section 06

Xiongzhua · Jilong Waiguge: phosphor bronze in the handle combination

Xiongzhua · Jilong Waiguge: alongside its M390 blade, the handle material is listed as titanium alloy plus phosphor bronze.

The same exhibition guide also lists Xiongzhua · Jilong Waiguge: the blade is M390, while the handle material is titanium alloy plus phosphor bronze. Here “phosphor bronze” is more specific than the broader term “bronze.”

The source still does not label individual handle components. The photograph confirms this tool and its handle-material combination; silvery or copper-coloured appearance cannot assign each piece to titanium alloy or phosphor bronze.

Section 07

How to read the source: component, finish, then figures

First establish whether bronze describes the body, shell, scabbard, a handle-material combination or one constituent of mokume. Then check whether the source gives a more specific name such as phosphor bronze or aluminium bronze. Finally, tie weight, dimensions and finish to the stated version.

Polishing, sandblasting with antiquing, stonewashing or shallow acid washing changes the visible surface. Brand statements about feel, wear or patina belong to the named product and treatment conditions.
