01 shells: wooden faces around a separate mechanism

01EDC’s wooden shell collection explicitly lists ebony, xiaoye zitan and dahong suanzhi. Ebony is a shell option: No. 7 has a stepped frame around a recessed face, while No. 11 emphasises a broad, plain surface. The shape changes the visual focus even within one material option.

The series information describes grain from paired cuts of the same stock, hand sanding and polishing, and copper nuts inserted into the internal screw holes. The shell, nuts and mechanical core are separate parts; an ebony shell does not make the entire slider ebony.

The photograph comes from a magazine’s contemporary product entry for these shells and includes several woods and both face shapes. It shows the series range, rather than identifying the species of each shell. A specific wood choice still needs to follow the configuration being ordered.

Daqian: ebony with brass panels

Jinmu Precision’s introduction to Daqian ends by naming an ebony-and-brass-panel version. The combination matters: the brass panels remain a separate material from the wood.

The article describes several ways to configure the mechanism: metal balls, magnets and ball slots; a single track with different hole arrangements; and a clapping-coin setup using PEEK or Teflon middle plates. Ebony is one finished-product material option. Sound and feedback also depend on these separate components and their arrangement; the maker’s descriptions are not hands-on test results from this page.

Xiangmo Hada: a wooden prize version, separate from the launch options

Chima’s Xiangmo Hada launch article lists PEI, PEEK and titanium alloy for the regular release. A wooden ebony Hada appears separately in a prize list. This establishes that the maker mentioned an ebony version, without transferring the regular versions’ prices, quantities or photographs to it.

The product introduction discusses modular tracks and a layered construction. It does not give a complete material list specifically for the wooden version, so the original ebony Hada name and its internal configuration remain separate questions.

A desktop tray in ebony

Clown Orange’s leather-pad and tray announcement offers walnut, huali wood and ebony trays. The ebony entry lists internal dimensions of 220 × 340 and a weight of 1,070g. No unit accompanies the dimensions in the source, so none is added here. The weight belongs to the tray, not the density of ebony wood.

Leather pads are made to suit the chosen tray size, with their materials, thicknesses and embossing listed separately. The wooden tray and leather pad are distinct objects. The article’s main photograph shows a huali-wood combination, which cannot be used as a photograph of the ebony version.

Ebony is the source name; the species remains unconfirmed

This page covers configurations explicitly called heitan or heitan wood by their makers, using Ebony as the English search name. Kew’s account of wood identification refers to ebony in the genus Diospyros, while explaining the ambiguity of trade names and the need to examine wood structure for precise identification.

The EDC sources do not supply a Latin name or independent test tied to the finished products. These items are therefore not automatically relabelled African blackwood, nor assigned a Diospyros species from their nearly black colour. Shell contours, metal panels and internal configurations can be compared directly; species and origin stay within what each source actually establishes.
