In EDC products, enamel is usually a coloured pattern layer attached to or filling a metal surface rather than the complete body. Reading a piece means identifying the metal substrate, the exact enamelled part, the maker's process wording, and whether the result is a replaceable face cover or a separate accessory within a larger build.
The V&A summarizes traditional enamel on metal as finely ground glass fused to metal. That definition explains why enamel involves a glassy colour layer, a metal base and firing, but it cannot supply an undisclosed brand recipe, temperature or substrate grade.
The product sources here use painted enamel, low-temperature enamel, high-temperature firing and cloisonné enamel. Each term stays with its product. Colour alone cannot establish a process, and a luminous effect must be verified version by version.
Chaohuaxishi EDC third-party Liusha face covers: the source describes the zodiac series as handmade cloisonné enamel compatible with the Liusha unrestricted slider.
Separate the metal base, enamel layer and firing method
Enamel colour belongs to a layer or filled field on metal; it does not mean that the metal itself changed colour. The V&A explains traditional enamel as finely ground glass fused to metal. For a branded product, the source must still identify the substrate, fill location and firing method.
Low temperature, high temperature, cloisonné and painted enamel are not interchangeable labels that can be assigned from a photograph. When a maker gives no temperature figure, this page retains its relative term. When the substrate is not stated, neither the enamel colour nor the border colour can identify it.
Kent Fat Cat: painted enamel on a copper body
Feizhengjing Wanjia describes two final Kent Fat Cat COS Spider-Man schemes as painted enamel on a copper body. The maker applies enamel glaze to the copper body, fires it, paints the pattern, then polishes and gilds the piece. Black Spider-Man and classic Spider-Man are the two enamel schemes.
The same article separately offers aged-brass and white-copper versions. A shared Fat Cat form does not turn those versions into enamel. The source also leaves the glaze composition, firing temperature and copper grade undisclosed.
David King: enamel in the face cover, zirconium damascus in the body

SAS EDC's Spade King David King uses zirconium damascus for the body and low-temperature enamel of different colours to fill the crowned-skull face cover. The release lists green, blue and red enamel versions and a separate blue diamond version; the latter is not enamel.
The same source explicitly says the enamel panels in this release do not glow. Its material list separately includes zirconium damascus, brass and copper. The 73 g weight and 54.5 × 28.6 × 15.7 mm dimensions belong to the complete object rather than the enamel layer.
Charlie King: luminosity belongs only to enamel version B
SAS EDC's public Heart King Charlie King black-zirconium release lists three configurations: base version A, luminous enamel version B and diamond version C. Version B uses low-temperature enamel and is explicitly luminous. That condition does not extend to A or C, or to the non-luminous David King enamel panels from the same brand.
The whole-product material list says zirconium and copper; the complete object weighs 90 g and measures 54.5 × 28.6 × 15.7 mm. The source does not identify the specific metal substrate beneath the enamel face cover, so copper is not assigned to that layer.
Liusha face covers: wire first divides the design into enamel fields
Zodiac dragon face cover: metal wire separates the design into colour fields; the specific enamel recipe is not disclosed.
Chaohuaxishi EDC's third-party Liusha face covers use the Dunhuang zodiac as their theme. The source presents the work under its intangible-cultural-heritage cloisonné wording: metal wire outlines the design, enamel colour is built up within the fields, and the piece is fired. This page attributes that wording to the maker; it does not independently certify registry status.
The face covers are described as handmade and compatible with the Liusha unrestricted slider. The source also warns that tiny bubbles can occur in handmade enamel. That is a condition of this batch, not a universal defect claimed for every enamel object.
Quenched Fiery Eyes: an enamel ornament and a separate back armour
Bieyetang describes Quenched Fiery Eyes as a bronze substrate with an enamel-colour flame ornament, high-temperature fired and installed with an eyeball screw and nut. Here enamel belongs to an attachable ornament rather than the whole mechanical object.
Spine Armour in the same article separately fixes a titanium back bone to a bronze spine. The two accessories can form a set but remain separate component systems.
How to read a build: find the process location before reading colour
First locate enamel on the body surface, within a face cover or on a separate ornament, then check whether the metal below it is named. Firing, painting, gilding, diamond fill, luminosity and a replaceable structure can coexist, but they are different operations and conditions.
A photograph can show wire boundaries, filled colour and gloss. It cannot provide a glaze recipe, firing temperature or metal grade. The strongest version identification still comes from the source's direct link between product, component and option.
