HuanghualiWood-grain panels and carved Xuanwu forms

In EDC, huanghuali can appear in the grain of a small panel or as a carving material offered within a slider series.

RUMU’s ghost-face and mountain-pattern panels, custom third-party work and the Xuanwu series offer different ways to look at the wood: begin with the part, then its grain and shape.

The Xuanwu group photograph presents several material options together. It does not identify the material of each individual piece.

TIER I’s Xuanwu material presentation lists mammoth, xiaoye zitan and huanghuali. The photograph has no material label for each object, so colours are not used to assign them.

Xuanwu: relief carving within a shared outline

In its preview of the 2026 Shanghai EDC Show, TIER I lists the Shanhai series Xuanwu slider with one-piece relief carving in mammoth, xiaoye zitan and huanghuali. The photograph brings together Xuanwu and landscape motifs: rounded edges frame relief details and open areas within a shared elongated outline.

This group photograph helps compare the series’ shapes and carving layouts. Huanghuali is an explicitly listed material option, but the source does not label each pictured object individually. The maker also describes a new mechanical return mechanism; the wood name does not specify the material of every internal component.

Price Tag panels: grain on a small wooden face

RUMU’s preview of wooden Price Tag panels lists Hainan huanghuali with ghost-face or mountain-like grain on the front, describing a limited, numbered edition. These are the maker’s grain-selection descriptions for the panel face. The wood belongs to the panels, without implying that the Price Tag frame or mechanism is also huanghuali.

The same article lists desert ironwood, snakewood, xue tan, African blackwood and stabilised wood options. Canghai, the name in the title, refers specifically to a laser-engraved desert-ironwood edition. It should not be carried over to the Hainan huanghuali panels. Comparing the panel material, natural grain and engraved designs separately makes the choices clearer.

Custom panels: shape and thickness matter too

BPMODS’ third-party panel showcase names Xiaoxiao Muyangren as a maker offering Hainan huanghuali, Indian xiaoye zitan, jinsi nan, mammoth tooth material and antler. The introduction describes custom shapes, thicknesses and grain choices, with silver-wire inlay among the possible additions.

These are the maker’s custom options, rather than features present on every panel. Nor does the list identify every material in a group photograph. BPMODS states that it is showcasing the work and does not sell the third-party panels itself; the platform, maker and specific configuration have separate roles.

Hainan huanghuali: a name reference, not an item identification

Research presented by the South China Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences, identifies Hainan huanghuali as Dalbergia odorifera. The same account explains that its wood can resemble Dalbergia tonkinensis in colour and structure, with specialised methods needed for precise identification.

This page therefore retains the makers’ terms huanghuali and Hainan huanghuali. The research provides naming and identification context. Ghost-face grain, brown tones and sheen can be appreciated in a photograph, but they do not establish the species or origin of a particular EDC panel.
