Iron MeteoriteNatural metal patterns, and finishes that borrow their name
Meteorite brings natural metal patterns to modern EDC: across a spinner arm, a button or a special edition. Its appearance and origin are compelling, but a “meteorite edition” can also be a name for a surface treatment.
STABLE's one-off Wuyazi and Ziii's Dawn series and Element buttons offer different starting points. Comparing them with an engraved zirconium finish helps separate the raw material, the surface and the product name.
STABLE EDC labels this example “Wuyazi one-off meteorite” in its anniversary announcement. The source does not identify the meteorite or provide independent authentication.
Wuyazi: the pattern on one special edition
STABLE EDC's December 2025 anniversary announcement presents a Wuyazi one-off meteorite edition and says it will remain unique. The photograph shows intersecting lines across three silver-grey arms and a circular button, with different reflections on the flat faces, chamfers and recesses.
This records a particular product shown by the maker at that time. It does not establish the meteorite's classification, origin or the material of every internal component. The maker's assessment of collectability is not evidence of a price or future appreciation.
Dawn Mini and Dawn T: related names, different dimensions
In its 2025 debut announcement, Ziii identifies the meteorite used for Dawn Mini as Muonionalusta and describes acid etching to reveal Widmanstätten patterns. It lists natural-colour, gold-colour and silver-colour versions, and describes an anti-oxidation coating. These remain the maker's statements: no independent authentication or coating-durability test for the finished pieces has been obtained.
The Mini specifications in that announcement are a maximum spin diameter of 50mm, maximum width of 27mm and body height of 10mm. The standard buttons are 24.5mm in diameter and 12.8mm thick. The later Dawn T announcement also lists a 50mm spin diameter, but its 16mm thickness includes the buttons. The meteorite T was available for preorder at that time.
The Mini's body height and the T's overall thickness are different measurements. Sharing a series name does not make them directly comparable material dimensions, and a preorder announcement does not establish that finished pieces have been delivered.
A separate button is a separate material object
The same Ziii debut announcement lists natural-colour and silver-colour meteorite options for its Element buttons, alongside a packaging entry for 24.5mm buttons. Meteorite therefore appears as a separately listed button product as well as a spinner edition.
Buttons and bodies are separate objects. Fitting meteorite buttons does not make the steel, titanium or zirconium body beneath them meteorite too. Likewise, Element buttons combining other natural stones with zirconium are not simply different colours of meteorite.
Silver patterns on zirconium can be called a meteorite finish
A contrasting example: Yijie's zirconium-alloy Medusa 1.0 with its Mithril finish. The maker describes a hand-drawn pattern reproduced by fibre-laser engraving; this is an imitation pattern, not meteorite material.
Yijie's June 2025 Medusa 1.0 commemorative-edition announcement clearly identifies the base as zirconium alloy. The maker describes drawing a Widmanstätten-style pattern by hand, then reproducing it with fibre-laser engraving to create the changing reflections of the Mithril finish. Here, “meteorite finish” names a visual theme.
METILIS offers another example with Qiyuan, described as a stainless-steel meteorite edition. Its source says brushing, sandblasting, blackening, stonewashing and laser engraving reproduce meteorite patterns. Both products can be appreciated for their finishing work, but neither belongs among natural-meteorite examples merely because its name includes the word.
Understanding the pattern is different from authenticating a piece
The Natural History Museum explains that iron meteorites consist mainly of iron-nickel metal. Cutting and etching can reveal their crystal structure, with museum examples illustrating Widmanstätten patterns. This provides a material explanation for such intersecting lines.
For an individual EDC piece, the named material and supply information still need to correspond to the finished object. Similar patterns can be made artificially. A coating is also not a guarantee against all oxidation or permission to use any cleaning method. Care and refinishing of a coated edition should follow the maker's instructions for that particular finish.
