NylonFrom mechanical exteriors and hidden cartridges to stands and bag linings
Nylon can form a rigid exterior, a hidden cartridge, a display support or a textile lining. Reading EDC materials means more than finding the word nylon: identify its location, the product version and the other materials it works with.
Disc Mouse and New Fries show nylon on the exterior. The original MINI places it beneath a stainless-steel cover, while stands and a storage pouch introduce supporting and textile roles. PA types that the product sources do not disclose remain unknown.
HAOTZ nylon Disc Mouse; the same source also specifies a bearing and ceramic balls.
Disc Mouse: a nylon version with a bearing and ceramic balls
HAOTZ explicitly describes this Disc Mouse as a nylon mechanical slider. Its specification image gives a diameter of 39 mm, a thickness of 9 mm and a weight of 11.2 g. These are finished-product specifications.
The assembly image specifies a 6705 bearing paired with ceramic balls, while another image describes a dyed, sandblasted surface. Nylon forms the principal exterior parts; the bearing and balls remain separate components. The source does not identify a PA grade or the ceramic composition of the balls.
New Fries: an elongated magnetic structure and nylon surface
HAOTZ New Fries in nylon, with a magnetic structure inside.
HAOTZ identifies New Fries as a nylon version, and its illustrated description explicitly names nylon. The exploded view shows multiple magnetic components inside, combining a nylon exterior with the magnetic assembly.
The specification image lists 70 × 14 × 13.5 mm and 15.2 g. The brand describes a fine matte texture and an internal structural revision intended to reduce separation when pushed to the end of its travel. These are design statements for this version, not universal nylon texture or fastening performance.
The original MINI: nylon beneath the cover plate
In its design retrospective, GAO Studio assigns the nylon cartridge, stainless-steel retaining cover and shoulder-type travel-limiting screw to the original MINI. That assembly contains 24 parts. The steel cover retains the magnets and works against the nylon cartridge.
The article moves on to MINI 2.0 and then SP. The early nylon cartridge must remain with its original version, rather than becoming a material claim for the later SP release. The 24-part figure also belongs only to that first-generation assembly.
Fuhuashu: nylon and stainless steel in a storage stand
WANWU STUDIO describes Fuhuashu, a display and storage stand for Ganggu, as nylon plus stainless steel. Approximately 245 g, an approximately 84 mm diameter and an approximately 130 mm height refer to the stand, not nylon density or the weight of one material component.
The brand states a capacity of up to three Ganggu pieces and three magnetic cores at once. The stored toys and cores remain separate from the stand. The source does not provide a complete part-by-part material list, so the nylon and steel are not assigned to individual components by colour alone.
Utopia display stand: two support-material options
Proxy Utopia display stand with black nylon supports; the displayed Utopia and coin are not included with the stand.
Proxy makes its Utopia display stand with a wooden base, described in the source as peach wood. The base measures 210 × 76 × 12 mm and contains two brass inserts, with a circular recess on the left for a Duya commemorative coin. The support structure is black nylon, with a clear-resin support available as an alternative.
These are alternative stand configurations. A clear-resin photograph cannot illustrate nylon, and the wooden base dimensions do not describe the nylon supports. The source explicitly excludes the Utopia object and Duya coin shown in the photographs from the stand purchase.
ni bag s: nylon as a textile lining
Stand-iN × NINI ni bag s: nylon is explicitly used for the thickened lining.
The ni bag s collaboration between Stand-iN EDC and NINI separates its materials into two layers: canvas and embroidery outside, with thickened nylon lining inside. The open divided storage space shows another form of nylon, used here as a textile.
The brand says the thicker design accommodates relatively thick sliders, spinners and other toys. It does not specify a nylon type, fabric density or a maximum size for every stored object. The canvas exterior cannot inherit the nylon identity of the lining.
Nylon is a family: confirm the type and form
Material manufacturer Ensinger identifies nylon as polyamide, or PA, and lists types including PA 6, PA 66 and PA 12. The numbers refer to molecular structure, so these are not interchangeable names. Ensinger also describes modifying properties with glass or carbon fibres. None of this identifies a particular nylon in a product whose grade and reinforcement are undisclosed.
Ensinger notes that moisture absorption varies with nylon type and can affect dimensions and mechanical properties. This provides context for material selection; it does not establish that an EDC object on this page has deformed, or supply a cleaning method for every combination of coatings, magnets and textiles.
