PPS forms the lower body of the black Daodun 2.0. Separating the upper body, lower body and inlay tells you much more than calling the whole fidget a special engineering plastic.
PPS, or polyphenylene sulfide, is an engineering thermoplastic. The black-and-grey Daodun shows how it can work alongside another plastic and a metal inlay in a mechanical slider.
This guide follows two generations of METILIS's Wode Daodun. The September 2026 article identifies the parts more clearly and shows why specifications and weights must stay with their release.

Locate the lower body before reading the colours
The structure with the upper body moved aside. PPS identifies the grey lower body, not the PEEK part or metal inlay above it.
METILIS's September 2026 introduction to Daodun 2.0 is specific: the black version has a PEEK upper body, a PPS lower body and a titanium Damascus inlay. The grey lower body surrounds the black upper section; pushing it open reveals the long opening and internal contact area.
The maker also describes blasting with 'zirconium sand', without specifying the medium's composition. This is a surface-treatment description, not evidence that the PPS part is zirconium metal or contains a verified proportion of zirconium.
The quoted weight of about 18.6 g belongs to the complete black Daodun 2.0, not the PPS lower body alone. The maker does not provide separate component weights, the PPS grade or any filler or reinforcement percentage.
Two generations, different configurations
The 2.0 reverse carries METILIS's Mi Xiaotie knight design. The nearby figurine and keyboard are not product components.
The March 2026 first-generation introduction lists PEEK + PPS and PEI + PSU configurations. It says all versions use stainless-steel inlays engraved with a Damascus pattern. In that description, Damascus identifies the engraving, not the inlay's material.
For the September 2.0 release, METILIS says the former collaboration became an independent release. The reverse changed to the Mi Xiaotie knight design and the inlay changed to titanium Damascus. The maker also identifies revised spring-slot depth as a structural update.
The first article's 17.5 g should not replace the black 2.0 version's approximately 18.6 g. Likewise, the clearer upper/lower-body allocation in the 2.0 article should not be applied retrospectively to every first-generation component without further evidence.
The amber version uses another pair of plastics
Two configurations from the same 2.0 release: PEEK/PPS for the black version and PEI/PSU for the amber version.
The PEI version from the same 2.0 release pairs a PEI upper body with a PSU lower body and titanium Damascus inlay. Its listed product weight is about 17 g. The amber colour and translucency contrast with the black version's dark upper body and grey outline.
Similar shapes and play mechanisms do not establish a shared lower-body material. PPS and PSU are different material names. The paired photograph is useful for comparing these configurations.
The plastics, geometry, spring and track all contribute to the finished mechanism's feedback. No controlled material comparison was performed for this guide, so differences in sound or movement are not attributed entirely to PPS.
A material datasheet still needs a matching grade
Ensinger describes PPS as a semicrystalline thermoplastic and discusses stiffness and dimensional stability in its TECATRON product information. This provides context for PPS as an engineering material.
METILIS does not specify TECATRON or state whether the PPS is reinforced with glass fibre or another filler. The supplier's datasheet therefore does not establish this fidget's heat, impact or wear performance.
The useful starting point is the actual design: PPS is explicitly selected for the lower body and paired with a PEEK upper body and metal inlay. Care and replacement-part information should follow the manufacturer's instructions for the relevant version.
