Stabilized WoodFrom resin stabilization to wooden shells and composite inlays
Stabilized wood retains visible grain, but the name does not identify a single tree species. It describes wood treated through steps such as drying, resin impregnation and curing. In an EDC product, the base wood, colour, surface coating, metal structure and inlays still need to be identified separately.
Some product sources on this page identify birch burl or tiger maple, while others say only stabilized wood. Where the species is not stated, it remains unknown; a finished red, blue or green colour is not a species identification.
Resin supplier TurnTex documents one specific workflow: dry the wood thoroughly, place it in resin under vacuum, release the vacuum and continue soaking, then heat-cure it. This helps explain why stabilized wood contains both wood and cured resin, but it does not establish that every brand here used the same resin, temperature or process.

Start with the treatment category, then identify the wood and recipe
Stabilized wood is treated wood rather than a single species. Resin can enter pores in the wood and cure in a later step; dyes may also be involved, but the particular resin, colourant, vacuum conditions and curing schedule depend on the source for each batch.
Two products called stabilized wood can therefore begin with different woods, show different burl or figured grain, and use different surface coatings. A photograph can document colour and pattern, but it cannot supply an unstated species or process.
Sixiang Fuyun: stabilized-wood shells around metal and POM
GD EDC selected four stabilized-wood shells for this Ping'anfu release, naming them New Sprout, Aurora, Starry Sky and Misty Sea.
GD EDC's Sixiang Fuyun Ping'anfu uses four stabilized-wood shells named New Sprout, Aurora, Starry Sky and Misty Sea. The wood grain dominates the exterior, while the interior retains a metal inlay structure and a POM centre post.
The brand links that POM post to reducing the risk of weather-related wood movement, and notes that grain varies from piece to piece and that water, alcohol and other liquids should be avoided. These are design and care statements for this product, not universal performance guarantees for stabilized wood.
RUMU: one treatment category, different base woods
RUMU EDC's stabilized-wood magnetic slider assigns its five styles and six colours to two base woods. Aurora, Van Gogh and Walking are described as birch burl; Glimmer and Chaos are described as tiger maple. The brand hand-polishes the product, with colour selectable but grain varying from body to body.
The sound spring is an optional extra that requires a drilled hole and embedded nut. This detail separates the stabilized-wood body from a metal acoustic accessory. The source does not disclose a resin recipe, and the series names do not identify wood species.
Jiuding: a wooden body beneath composite inlay
The Jiuding source lists the stabilized-wood body, gold-coloured mother-of-pearl and silver-wire inlay in the same configuration.
Liao Liao EDC identifies stabilized wood as the Jiuding body, then adds what the brand calls deep-sea gold-coloured mother-of-pearl and silver-wire inlay. The luminous pattern and wood grain appear together, but the glow must not be attributed to stabilized wood itself.
The source gives 46 × 26 × 13 mm and approximately 25 g. Those figures describe the complete Jiuding; its variable colour and pattern describe individual variation within that material batch.
Fafashe: separate roles for wood, shell, silver and bronze
Fafashe stabilized-wood limited edition: the source also specifies silver wire, shell inlay and a bronze track plate.
The Fafashe stabilized-wood limited edition uses stabilized wood for the body, adds silver-wire and shell inlay, and specifically assigns bronze to the track plate. The source also describes nearly twenty hand-worked steps and a high polish without lacquer.
Its 55 × 30 × 14 mm dimensions and 54 g weight are subject to the actual item, as the source notes. The brand warns against contact with water or alcohol because deformation may result. This guidance belongs to Fafashe and should not be exchanged with Mulinglong's shellac-coated surface.
Mulinglong: a surface coating beyond stabilization

The stabilized-wood Mulinglong likewise combines gold-coloured mother-of-pearl and silver-wire inlay. The brand additionally specifies three coats of natural shellac, applied hours apart, followed by surface polishing. Shellac is a surface step for this product, not part of the definition of stabilized wood.
The stabilized-wood VIP version measures 55 × 30 × 15 mm and weighs 27–32 g, with dimensions and weight subject to the actual item. The same article includes older and newer versions as well as stabilized wood and African blackwood; figures and surface statements must stay with their corresponding passages.
How to read a build: separate wood, resin, surface and structure
First establish whether stabilized wood is the body, shell or panel. Then check whether the base wood is named, and separate resin stabilization, colour and a shellac or other surface step from metal, POM and mother-of-pearl components.
Grain variation is an individual condition to accept when choosing a piece, not a shortcut to species identification. Care advice must also return to the exact branded version, because coatings and composite structures differ even when both products are labelled stabilized wood.
